Assessment Overview

Why is assessing capability important?

If you don’t know the current capabilities of your organisation, you’ll struggle to improve its performance. It’s as simple as that. You won’t know where to focus your efforts in developing peoples’ skills, and you won’t be able to track their progress.

So whether in leadership, marketing, sales or service, assessing current capability of an organisation is a critical first step. It allows you to:

  • Determine whether business goals can be delivered with the current set of capabilities
  • Identify the real capability gaps, rather than the perceived ones, so that there is no wasted investment building skills that are not a priority or that already exist
  • Engage senior managers around the training and development plan, and;
  • Track and demonstrate the impact that this plan is having on the capabilities of the organisation, using the capability data as a starting point for measurement
Assessment can also be a useful tool for talent identification and management, ensuring that key people are retained within the business.
